Prime Medicine was created to turn prime editing — the search-and-replace technique — into medicines. Its first therapy, for a rare immune disease, became the first prime-editing treatment given to patients, with results published showing the corrected cells took hold and restored the missing immune function.
Prime Medicine was founded in 2019 by David Liu, Andrew Anzalone and Keith Gottesdiener to develop prime editing therapeutics. PM359, correcting the NCF1 delGT mutation in p47phox-deficient chronic granulomatous disease, produced the first published first-in-human prime-editing results in the New England Journal of Medicine. The company has also pursued liver programmes including Wilson's disease.
