In one paragraph

Verve had a single idea: instead of taking cholesterol medication every day for life, switch off the gene that raises cholesterol, once. Its lead treatment reached patients and showed lasting reductions in LDL cholesterol. Eli Lilly bought the company in 2025 and continues the programme.

Verve Therapeutics was founded in 2018 by Sekar Kathiresan and Kiran Musunuru to apply in vivo base editing to cardiovascular disease, licensing base-editing technology from Beam Therapeutics. VERVE-102 targets PCSK9 and holds FDA Fast Track designation. Eli Lilly acquired the company in 2025 for approximately $1 billion, plus a contingent value right tied to dosing the first patient in a US Phase 3 trial.
