Arbor mines genetic data from microbes for editing proteins nobody has characterised yet, then engineers the promising ones into therapies. Its lead programme targets a rare metabolic disease that causes kidney failure in children.
Arbor Biotechnologies was founded in 2016 by Feng Zhang, David Scott, David Walt and Winston Yan. It combines computational discovery of novel CRISPR-associated proteins with protein engineering. Its lead clinical programme, ABO-101, targets primary hyperoxaluria type 1.
